Children and Several Others Dead After Montana House Fire and Shooting Described as Family Disturbance

“NO ONE IS LEAVING THIS HOUSE”!!! BELIEVE IT OR NOT, AUTHORITIES SAY A FAMILY DISTURBANCE INVOLVING GUNFIRE AND A HOUSE FIRE LEFT CHILDREN AND SEVERAL OTHERS DEAD IN MONTANA… AND A PERSON CONSIDERED A SUSPECT HAS DIED BY SUICIDE.

A shooting broke out at a residential property in Montana.

A fire erupted at the same residence.

The incident resulted in the deaths of children, according to authorities.

Several other individuals were also killed in the incident.

Authorities have described the fatal occurrence as a “family disturbance.”

The events took place in Billings.

The home was located in a West End neighborhood.

On Sunday, August 23, emergency dispatchers received an urgent report.

At 6:01 p.m. that night, a 911 caller reported a shooter at the residence, according to police.

Officers were dispatched to the West End home.

Then, at 6:12 p.m., the first officer arrived on scene.

Gunfire was reported as that officer reached the property.

Shots were fired “from the back of the house,” according to police.

The house erupted into flames, authorities said.

The Billings home was “fully engulfed” in fire that Sunday evening.

The fire entirely destroyed the Billings home, KTVQ reported.

Authorities have not yet confirmed exactly how many people were killed as a result of the shooting and the blaze.

Law enforcement has yet to release the identities of those killed at the Billings home.

Authorities said a person considered a suspect died by suicide, according to CBS News.

The Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office addressed the fatal incident.

The sheriff’s office indicated that the violence was not random.

“The initial investigation shows that this event started as a family disturbance and was not a random act of violence where the parties were unknown to each other,” the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement to CBS News.

The sheriff’s office also said “there is no further danger to the public.”

The Billings Police Department addressed the community the following day.

On Monday, August 24, Sgt. Jeff Stovall issued a statement on behalf of the department.

The statement was shared via Facebook.

“First and foremost, the Billings Police Department extends our deepest condolences to everyone affected by this awful tragedy,” Stovall said in the Facebook statement on Monday.

“Our thoughts are with the families, loved ones, and all those impacted during this incredibly difficult time.”

The department acknowledged that the public had questions about the case.

“We understand there are many questions surrounding this investigation,” Stovall added.

Stovall explained that certain information had to be withheld.

“However, to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation, there are details we simply cannot release at this time.”

Stovall said further updates will come “as additional information becomes available and can appropriately be released.”

The investigation remains ongoing.

But details concerning the family were shared through an online effort.

Names of the victims have not been formally shared by law enforcement.

A GoFundMe was established in support of Adam Ghekiere.

The GoFundMe said that he lost his wife, children and other loved ones in Billings’ West End neighborhood on Sunday.

The fundraiser described the Sunday occurrence as an “unimaginable” incident.

Coworkers organized the campaign for Ghekiere.

The page identified his profession.

“On 8/23, our friend and coworker, Adam, an Airport Rescue Firefighter, suffered [a] loss of a magnitude most of us can’t even imagine,” the GoFundMe page reads.

“The loss of his wife, children, and other members of his family.”

“Adam has dedicated his career to helping others on their worst days.”

“Now, he needs our help on his.”

And official confirmation has not followed.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the total number of dead.
