A 22-year-old Utah State University student has been sentenced following his admission that he sexually touched another student while she was asleep.
Nolan Forrest Hoyt entered guilty pleas to two misdemeanor charges in the case.
Those offenses were sexual battery and lewdness.
According to court records, the incident took place in March 2025.
The events occurred after the woman fell asleep inside Hoyt’s apartment.
The victim later gave an account of the night to law enforcement officers.
She told police that she woke during the night and discovered Hoyt sexually touching her without her consent.
She also reported that Hoyt was touching himself during the encounter.
Following the incident, the woman confronted Hoyt about what had occurred.
That confrontation occurred during a recorded phone conversation.
According to court documents, Hoyt made an admission to her during that call.

He admitted on the recording that he had touched her without permission.
Hoyt reportedly blamed his behavior on being “stupid.”
But investigators say Hoyt later made another admission about the night.
That statement removed any question about whether he realized the woman was awake.
Police said Hoyt acknowledged that he heard her snoring.
He acknowledged that he touched her anyway.
Utah State University Police handled the investigation into the allegations.
In April 2025, police arrested Hoyt.
The case ultimately resulted in Hoyt pleading guilty to the two misdemeanor offenses.
On August 19, a judge imposed his sentence.
Hoyt was ordered to serve 24 days in the Cache County Jail.
And he will remain under court supervision for considerably longer after completing his jail sentence.
Hoyt was also sentenced to 24 months of probation.
