A 43-year-old Louisville woman is in custody following an alleged attempt to smuggle contraband into the local jail.
Authorities say Kimberly Stayton tried to sneak narcotics into the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections.
The illicit delivery was allegedly intended for an inmate currently locked up on a murder charge.
The investigation began after jail officials intercepted a suspicious envelope addressed to an inmate housed at the facility.
Then, investigators searched the intercepted mailing.
According to court records, investigators found 21 strips of Suboxone inside the package.
Authorities say the envelope was intended for 40-year-old Jesse Galloway.
Galloway is currently jailed in connection with the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Jaqurius “Cory” Bettison.

In October 2021, Bettison was shot in the leg and later died.
Following the mail inspection, Stayton was arrested.
She is charged with promoting contraband.
She is charged with trafficking in a controlled substance.
And she is charged with forgery.
Both individuals now face upcoming dates on the court calendar.
Stayton is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Sept. 3.
Galloway’s next court appearance in the murder case is scheduled for Oct. 23.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
