Madeline Veronique Daly, 36, has pleaded guilty to the first-degree murder of her 11-month-old son, Basil Stoner.
The infant lost his life in the middle of a custody dispute.
A court order had granted emergency custody of the child to his father.
In December 2025, Daly took her baby from Wyoming to New Mexico despite that order.
On December 23, authorities located Daly inside a camper in a rural area near Silver City.
Police officers surrounded the vehicle.
Then, as police surrounded the camper, a gunshot was heard coming from inside.
Officers entered the vehicle.

Inside, officers discovered that Daly had shot her son with a 9mm handgun.
The baby was struck in the face.
He could not be saved.
Daly was arrested at the scene.
After her arrest, Daly allegedly told investigators that she believed her actions were “worth it” if they prevented the child’s father and his family from having access to him.
She also reportedly claimed that she believed her son would be in danger if he returned to his father.
And on August 24, 2026, Daly ultimately pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.
She now faces life in prison.
She is awaiting formal sentencing.
