An 81-year-old California man has been arrested in northern Nevada.
Authorities identified the man as William Morgan.
According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Morgan is classified as a Tier III sex offender.
That designation represents the highest tier classification.
Investigators allege that Morgan had actually been living inside Lyon County for roughly six years.
During that entire time, authorities say he never registered as a sex offender in Nevada as required.
He managed to reside in the state for approximately six years without completing the local registration process.
But investigators soon uncovered an unusual twist in the case.

According to authorities, official records in California showed that Morgan continued personally completing his annual sex offender registration there.
He submitted that paperwork each year in California during the same period he was allegedly living in Nevada.
Authorities allege Morgan remained entirely current with his California registration filings while failing to disclose where he actually lived.
And he allegedly never registered his presence in Nevada.
Investigators eventually located Morgan at a residence on Iroquois Trail in Stagecoach, Nevada.
Deputies took him into custody at the Stagecoach address.
Morgan was arrested on a felony charge of failure to register as a sex offender.
His bail was set at $5,000.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
