“I CAN OUTRUN THIS WARRANT”!!! BELIEVE IT OR NOT, AUTHORITIES SAY 58-YEAR-OLD BILLY PROFFITT JR. FLED ACROSS STATE LINES AFTER A FATAL FIGHT IN KENTUCKY… AND HE HAS NOW BEEN APPREHENDED IN NORTH CAROLINA ON A FIRST-DEGREE MANSLAUGHTER INDICTMENT.
An interstate fugitive search ended with the apprehension of a Kentucky suspect in North Carolina.
Billy Proffitt Jr., 58, of McCreary County, is accused in the death of 60-year-old Gene Cooper.
Proffitt is charged with first-degree manslaughter.
The charge stems from an April 7 disturbance at a home located on Patterson Drive in Strunk.
Kentucky State Police were dispatched to the residence following the disturbance.
When troopers arrived, they found Cooper unresponsive.
Cooper had sustained fatal injuries.
The fatal injuries followed what investigators described as a physical and verbal altercation.

A grand jury subsequently returned an indictment against Proffitt.
Then, by the next day, Kentucky authorities called in the U.S. Marshals Service to assist in the search.
Investigators eventually tracked Proffitt across state lines into western North Carolina.
A multi-agency team located him in Marion.
He was arrested without incident.
Following the arrest, authorities booked Proffitt into the McDowell County Jail.
His cash bond was set at $250,000.
Officials held him on that bail while extradition back to Kentucky was arranged.
Yet Proffitt has pleaded not guilty.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
