A California investigation involving alleged incest, the death of an infant and a missing 14-year-old girl has led to an active search for a father and daughter.
Investigators believe the two are traveling together.
The case began on August 1 in Monterey County.
On that date, a newborn baby girl was discovered dead along a roadway near Moss Landing.
Investigators have named the child Baby Angelita.
According to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, the infant was found with her umbilical cord still attached.
The newborn also showed signs of trauma.
The investigation into the roadside discovery eventually led authorities to identify the baby’s mother.
The mother is 14 years old.
Then investigators uncovered another allegation in the case.
Authorities say the teenager’s father, 38-year-old Sergio Galves Perez, is also allegedly the biological father of Baby Angelita.
Investigators allege Perez impregnated his daughter when she was just 13 years old.
On Monday, arrest warrants were issued for both Perez and his daughter.
The 14-year-old is wanted on a murder charge in connection with the death of Baby Angelita.
Perez is wanted on several charges, including incest.
Authorities believe Perez is currently on the run with his daughter.
The situation has created an urgent concern for law enforcement officials.
Despite being considered a suspect in her baby’s death, law enforcement also views the teenager as a potential victim.

Investigators believe she may herself be in danger.
Monterey County Sheriff Tina Nieto emphasized that distinction.
“She’s 14. She’s a victim, too, even though she’s a suspect,” Nieto said.
The sheriff said investigators want to locate the girl and get her to safety.
Authorities also want to hear her account of what happened.
Nieto described Perez as a serious offender.
And the sheriff accused him of betraying the fundamental trust a child places in a parent.
A major breakthrough in the case reportedly came through license plate reader camera technology.
The camera system identified a vehicle connected to the investigation.
The vehicle was registered to Perez and his wife, 36-year-old Ofelia Garcia Ortega.
Authorities have since arrested Ortega.
Ortega has been charged with child endangerment.
Chief Deputy Eric Bixler said information obtained from the camera system was instrumental in advancing the investigation.
Bixler suggested that without the technology, identifying those connected to Baby Angelita could have taken years or potentially never happened.
Yet the primary suspects remain missing.
Authorities are continuing their search for Sergio Galves Perez.
