Jefferson Parish deputy Kyle Nugent fired after allegedly strangling girlfriend — before drunken hit-and-run in marked patrol vehicle

A Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy has been fired and arrested following a series of alleged offenses.

Authorities say the incident took place on Monday night at a Jefferson Parish apartment complex.

Kyle Nugent, 34, was identified as the deputy involved.

Nugent was a nine-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s officials stated that Nugent assaulted and strangled his girlfriend during the domestic incident.

Official statements confirmed that he committed a domestic abuse battery involving strangulation against her.

Then, the investigation uncovered further alleged criminal conduct outside the residence.

Authorities found that Nugent allegedly committed a hit-and-run in the apartment parking lot.

Investigators noted that he was driving a marked Sheriff’s Office vehicle at the time of the collision.

Court records list a figure of .166 in connection with his impaired-driving charge.

That reading is more than twice the typical .08 legal threshold for drivers.

On Tuesday, Nugent was taken into custody following the incident.

He was formally booked on several criminal counts.

The charges include operating a vehicle while intoxicated and reckless operation.

He was also booked for hit-and-run driving.

And he faces a charge of domestic abuse battery involving strangulation.

Nugent was terminated from his position at the Sheriff’s Office.

He is currently being held without bond.

A Gwen’s Law hearing is scheduled for Thursday.

The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
