BELIEVE IT OR NOT, POLICE SAY AN 18-YEAR-OLD MONROE MAN CONFRONTED A MOTHER WHO CAME TO PICK UP HER DAUGHTER AND CHAMBERED A LIVE ROUND IN A FIREARM… AND HE HAS NOW BEEN ARRESTED ON AN AGGRAVATED ASSAULT CHARGE.
An 18-year-old Monroe man has been arrested after an alleged armed confrontation outside a local residence.
Police say the incident stemmed from a dispute over a mother attempting to pick up her daughter.
Authorities identified the suspect as Javon Burrell.
Authorities say Burrell also goes by the moniker “Mook.”
He was charged with one count of aggravated assault with a firearm.
The arrest took place early on the morning of Sunday, August 30, 2026.
Details regarding the confrontation were set out in an affidavit of probable cause filed by Monroe Police Officer Christopher Jackson.
Officer Jackson reported that police were dispatched to the scene at approximately 3:19 a.m.
The dispatch followed an emergency report of an aggravated assault.
Investigators subsequently spoke with the mother regarding the incident.
The woman told investigators that she had gone to a residence identified as the home of her child’s father.
She said she had arrived at the residence because she intended to pick up her daughter.
But police say Burrell confronted her at the property.
According to the victim, Burrell told her that she was “not getting her daughter.”
He then ordered her to leave the property.
Then the confrontation allegedly became considerably more threatening.

The woman told police that Burrell asked another male at the residence to hand him a firearm.
Burrell received the firearm from the other male.
After receiving it, Burrell allegedly pulled back the slide.
He chambered a live round into the weapon.
The mother was not alone during the encounter.
Several people were accompanying her to the residence.
The woman and the people accompanying her reportedly believed Burrell was preparing to fire at them.
Fearing for their safety, the group fled the property.
They left the scene at a high rate of speed.
And Monroe police subsequently went to the residence following the assault report.
Upon arriving at the property, responding officers encountered a male.
The male identified himself to officers as “Mook.”
The victim positively identified him.
She identified him as the person who had allegedly confronted her with the firearm.
Police formally identified the suspect as Javon Burrell.
Officers took him into custody at approximately 4:22 a.m.
Burrell is charged with aggravated assault with a firearm.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
