A 22-year-old Tennessee motorist died Friday evening following a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 63 West near County Road 168 in Jasper County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Her identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin, DPS said.
The driver of the Dodge was identified as 18-year-old Matthew Bailey of Zavalla, according to DPS.
On Friday, Sept. 4, the collision took place at approximately 6:30 p.m., according to troopers.
A preliminary investigation indicates that an SUV was traveling westbound on Highway 63, DPS said.
The SUV slowed down to make a left turn onto County Road 168, according to troopers.

Texas coach Maurice Heade, who allegedly choked his 15-year-old son as an officer struggled to intervene, was arrested on campus.
The driver of the Dodge failed to control his speed and struck the rear of the SUV, according to DPS. Bailey was not injured in the crash, troopers said.
The driver of the SUV was transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital following the collision, DPS said.
Hospital medical staff pronounced the 22-year-old woman deceased, according to troopers.
Highway 63 West was closed in both directions while emergency crews worked the scene and cleared the roadway, according to DPS. The highway has since reopened to traffic.
Assisting agencies at the scene included the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, the Jasper Police Department and the Texas Department of Transportation, troopers said.
Responders from the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department, Beech Grove Volunteer Fire Department First Responders, Allegiance Mobile Health and Jasper Xxxon Towing also assisted, according to DPS.
The crash remains under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
