A Missouri middle school assistant principal is facing a felony charge after investigators uncovered disturbing online activity and illegal child abuse material on his phone, authorities said.
Daniel Ott is an assistant principal at Hollenbeck Middle School.
Ott allegedly communicated with other users on messaging apps including Kik and Telegram, authorities said.
Those online conversations involved inappropriate sexual topics regarding minors, according to investigators.
During some of the exchanges, the educator openly mentioned that he worked at a middle school, investigators said.
The assistant principal also allegedly made inappropriate comments about middle school-aged girls, police said.
Investigators later found multiple illegal images involving children on his phone, according to a probable cause statement.
Ott has worked as an assistant principal at Hollenbeck Middle School since 2024. He was placed on leave following his arrest, district officials said.
There is currently no indication that any Hollenbeck students were involved in the allegations, the school district said.
Ott has been accused and is not convicted, records note.
The defendant was booked into the St. Charles County Jail on a $500,000 bond, records show.
