A Florida woman allegedly set a driver on fire at a gas pump after asking for money, police said.
Eleanor Crawford, 41, was arrested a few blocks from the scene, according to police.
On September 10, 2026, officers responded to a gas station in St. Petersburg, Florida, around 8 p.m., police said.
A 41-year-old victim was pumping fuel into her Volvo SUV when Crawford approached her, investigators said. Police said the two women did not know each other.
Crawford first asked to borrow the victim’s phone, and the woman allowed her to use it, according to investigators.
The suspect then allegedly asked the woman for money, police said.
When the victim refused, Crawford pulled out a lighter and deliberately ignited gasoline near the pump nozzle, police said.

The fire quickly spread across the pump area, investigators said. The flames burned the victim and engulfed her vehicle, according to police.
The woman suffered second-degree burns to her arms and back, police said. She was transported to a hospital for treatment, according to authorities.
A witness who was nearby ran over and helped the injured woman into his truck before calling 911, police said.
Crawford left the area immediately following the attack, police said.
Officers later located the suspect a few blocks away and took her into custody, according to police.
Investigators have not publicly identified a motive beyond the events leading up to the attack, police said.
Crawford was charged with attempted felony murder and arson, and her bond was set at $350,000, according to records.
