A 74-year-old Missouri man refused to perform CPR on his injured girlfriend after an all-night dispute inside her retirement home apartment, according to court documents.
Jewel Braziel, 74, lived at the St. Andrews retirement complex on Halls Ferry Road in Jennings, Missouri, one floor below 74-year-old Gail Gregory.
On September 13, 2026, officers responded to the senior living complex shortly after 5 a.m. for an unresponsive woman, police said.
Upon arrival, responding officers discovered Gregory inside her apartment suffering from visible facial injuries, according to the probable cause statement.
Neighbors heard Gregory and Braziel arguing inside the apartment throughout the night, according to investigators. Witnesses said the arguing continued for hours before suddenly stopping around 5 a.m.
Surveillance footage from the complex allegedly showed the boyfriend heading toward the stairwell and elevator area leading to Gregory’s floor around 4:45 a.m., court documents state.
At 5:13 a.m., Braziel called 911 and reported that Gregory was unresponsive, police said.
Dispatchers instructed the accused to perform CPR on Gregory, according to the probable cause statement. He refused, police said.

Around 5:17 a.m., surveillance footage allegedly showed the defendant walking back toward the stairwell and elevator area to meet responding officers, according to court documents.
When officers entered Gregory’s apartment, they found her unresponsive with visible injuries to her face, police said.
Police also found bloody rags inside a trash can in the apartment, according to the probable cause statement.
The first officer to reach Gregory immediately began performing CPR and continued until paramedics arrived, police said.
Gregory was transported to an area hospital, where she later died from her injuries, authorities said.
Investigators have not publicly said what caused Gregory’s fatal injuries, whether a weapon was used, or what the bloody rags were allegedly used for, according to police.
Authorities have not released a possible motive in the case, police said. They also have not disclosed what the pair had allegedly been arguing about before Gregory’s death.
Following the investigation, Braziel was charged with one count of second-degree murder, according to court records.
He is being held on a $1 million cash-only bond with no 10% option, according to court records.
