Teacher Abigail Faust admits sexually abusing teen: ‘What I did was not a mistake or a lapse of judgment’

A Wisconsin elementary school teacher has confessed to sexually assaulting a 15-year-old she babysat, according to court records.

Abigail Michelle Faust, 25, taught at River Crest Elementary School in Hudson, records show.

Police zeroed in on Faust while investigating a fellow teacher at the elementary school, according to court documents.

That colleague, 26-year-old Madison Bergmann, worked alongside Faust as a fifth-grade teacher, records show. Bergmann is now serving a six-year prison sentence after pleading guilty last year to sexually assaulting an 11-year-old student, according to authorities.

The investigation into Bergmann began when the victim’s parents found lewd text messages with the teacher on their son’s phone, police said.

Bergmann pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual misconduct by school staff and one count of child enticement, court records show.

During that probe, investigators discovered that Faust and Bergmann were exchanging text messages about their sexual encounters, according to court documents.

Faust admitted to sexually assaulting the 15-year-old in Washington County while working as the family’s nanny, prosecutors said.

The educator also faced a second case for allegedly kissing a fifth-grade boy in her classroom last year, records show. Prosecutors agreed to toss the kissing charge under a plea agreement, according to court documents.

Under the terms of the deal, the state agreed not to seek more than a 15-year prison sentence, records show.

“What I did was not a mistake or a lapse of judgment,” Faust said in court Monday, the Twin Cities Pioneer Press reported.

The defendant also claimed during her court appearance that she is seeing a therapist, according to the report.

Faust was placed in jail following her guilty plea, according to court records.

She remains behind bars pending her sentencing on Dec. 15, records show.
