A Florida hospital patient allegedly unleashed a frenzied attack against an emergency room nurse, according to surveillance footage and broadcast reports.
Wenyou Rubin, 44, was identified as the patient treated at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.
On May 30, the defendant allegedly carried out an unprovoked assault inside the hospital’s new $300 million emergency room, NBC6 reported on Wednesday.
Rubin allegedly struck nurse Yanira Eguileor multiple times during the encounter, according to the station.
The assault left the emergency room worker with head, neck, spinal and back injuries, the outlet reported.
Eguileor was also left with a bruised arm, records show.
Surveillance video captured the suspect wearing a purple shirt prior to the altercation, according to reports.
Rubin allegedly clubbed patient finance staffer Tisa Wolf before turning to attack the emergency room nurse, NBC6 reported.
Eguileor revealed that she was attacked after attempting to defend her coworker, according to WSVN.
“I heard a loud scream from one of the staff members, a female,” she recalled.
“I turned around, and this man is running after her, toward the nurse’s station,” Eguileor said. “That’s when I turned around, and I went towards them, and he was about to strike her, and I said, ‘No! Don’t hit her.’”
“He turned around, and he punched me.”
Surveillance video showed Eguileor push the man before he struck her in the shoulder.
Rubin then struck her with a “closed fist,” she told police in dispatch audio obtained by WSVN.

“He punched me a total of three times,” Eguileor told the outlet in July.
The patient continued his assault and the nurse fell to the floor, surveillance video showed.
Nurses rushed over to her aid during the encounter, according to reports. Rubin was later restrained and wrestled to the ground.
Her attorney, Michael Pizzi, was left appalled by the nature of the response to the beatdown, CBS reported.
“You have a career trauma nurse, knocked semi-unconscious, could’ve been killed, just lying on the floor with no protections while this guy continues to ransack the trauma ward,” he told CBS.
Two public safety officers responded after the attack took place, a hospital spokesperson told CBS. The spokesperson said the nurse was offered immediate care.
“Jackson takes the safety of our employees, patients, and visitors extremely serious,” the hospital spokesperson added. “Jackson Memorial Hospital maintains a significant security presence throughout the campus, including in and around the emergency room.”
“In addition, all emergency room staff are required to complete workplace violence prevention and personal safety training,” the spokesperson said.
“The training prepares employees to recognize and respond to threatening or aggressive behavior through de-escalation techniques and strategies to avoid, escape, and protect themselves when necessary.”
In July, it emerged that a $5 million negligence lawsuit had been filed against the hospital, WSVN reported. Police have not commented on the lawsuit.
Pizzi also filed a whistleblower complaint against the hospital, claiming it retaliated against Eguileor.
The nurse is accused of acquiring patients’ health information for her “personal gain,” according to reports.
Rubin faces a charge of battery on an emergency medical care provider, according to Miami-Dade County inmate records.
A separate 2024 case where he was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer is still pending, according to jail records.
Meanwhile, Rubin is being held in jail until he can be sent to a psychiatric unit, records show.
