75-year-old North Miami Beach husband accused of stabbing sleeping wife is ordered held without bond

A 75-year-old Florida husband allegedly stabbed his sleeping wife in the back before punching her outside their home, according to authorities.

Pratapsinh K. Thakor, 75, lived with his wife at an apartment in the 1400 block of Northeast Miami Gardens Drive in North Miami Beach, Florida.

On September 1, 2026, shortly after 1 a.m., deputies responded to the residence after a woman reported being attacked, police said.

The victim had been asleep inside the bedroom she shared with her husband when the unprovoked violence began, according to investigators.

Thakor allegedly entered the bedroom and began stabbing his wife in the back without provocation, investigators said.

The woman woke during the attack and pleaded with her husband to stop, police said.

Authorities said she managed to wrestle the knife away from him. But the attack continued, according to investigators.

After losing control of the knife, the husband allegedly began repeatedly punching his wife with a closed fist, investigators said.

The woman eventually managed to escape from the apartment and call 911, police said. However, authorities said the assault had not ended by the time deputies reached the scene.

Upon locating the couple outside the apartment, deputies allegedly found the man holding his injured wife by her hair, police said.

The suspect was taken into custody at the scene, according to records.

Investigators recovered what was described in court records as a lethal cutting instrument from the scene.

The wife was transported to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital with multiple injuries, including a punctured lung, authorities said.

At the hospital, doctors determined the victim had suffered two lacerations to the left side of her back, a laceration to her left arm, a bloody mouth and a punctured lung, records show.

The victim’s name and age have not been publicly released, authorities said.

Investigators have not publicly disclosed a motive for the attack, according to police.

Deputies arrested the 75-year-old on felony charges, records show. Following his arrest, Thakor made an unsolicited statement denying involvement in the stabbing, authorities said.

Thakor was charged with attempted felony murder causing injury and domestic violence battery causing harm, court records state.

On September 2, 2026, a judge found probable cause in the case and ordered the husband held without bond.

He remained in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, according to jail records.
