LITTLE BOY IN TUX CALLS MAID “MOM” AT BALL

The ballroom had been arranged like a stage. Crystal chandeliers poured golden light across the polished marble. Men in black tie and women in sweeping gowns of red and emerald formed a glittering corridor.

At the center of it all walked a little boy no older than four, dressed in a miniature black tuxedo with a crisp bow tie. His shiny shoes clicked softly with each step. He looked small, serious, and strangely determined.

Women knelt on either side, smiling warmly, hands extended. “Come here, darling…”

He kept walking.

Then a maid in a black uniform and white apron appeared from the side, carrying a heavy silver tray. She stopped dead when she saw him. The tray slipped from her fingers and clattered loudly onto the marble.

She fell to her knees, arms open, tears already streaming down her face.

The little boy’s face changed instantly. He ran the last few steps and threw himself into her arms.

“Mom.”

Gasps rippled through the crowd.

A stunned voice from the side asked what everyone was thinking: “Wait… why does he call her ‘mama’?”

The maid clutched the boy to her chest, sobbing into his small shoulder. Her voice cracked as she looked up toward someone in the crowd.

“You promised he would never know, Mommy.”

The perfect ballroom suddenly felt very cold.
