“I PLAY WIDE RECEIVER FOR THE 49ERS AND CAN BUILD WEALTH WITH YOU”!!! BELIEVE IT OR NOT, FEDERAL INVESTIGATORS SAY A MAN POSED AS AN NFL PLAYER TO SCAM WOMEN OUT OF $1.3 MILLION BEFORE BEING ARRESTED AT AN AIRPORT IN TEAM APPAREL.

In February 2022, an alleged multi-state fraud scheme began targeting women across the western United States.
Federal authorities allege the operation reached across Oregon, Washington, Idaho and California.
The man accused of orchestrating the scheme is 35-year-old Daejon Labrayae Love.
Love allegedly used dating apps, social media accounts and fabricated investment opportunities to defraud victims.
According to a federal complaint, Love presented himself to victims as a wealthy businessman.
He also allegedly claimed at times to be a professional football player for the San Francisco 49ers.
Court documents state Love operated under several different aliases throughout the scheme.
Among the names he allegedly used were Jon Love, Avril Lyto Love and Jordan Love.
Investigators allege that Love met many of the women through online dating platforms.
He then allegedly convinced the women that they were in genuine romantic relationships with him.
Love allegedly told the women he wanted to build personal wealth and a future together.
After establishing that romantic trust, he allegedly introduced investment opportunities that did not exist.
Federal investigators allege Love maintained the outward appearance of immense wealth in person and across social media.
Investigators said Love falsely portrayed himself as a wealthy real estate investor.
He also claimed to play wide receiver for the 49ers.
To support his athletic claims, Love allegedly took video footage originally shared online by real NFL players.
He allegedly stripped away the identifying information of the original posters and reposted the clips as his own.
Love also allegedly recorded video of himself appearing to sign what he represented as an official contract with the 49ers.
He claimed to victims that he attended workouts and team meetings with the San Francisco organization.
But the San Francisco 49ers and the NFL later confirmed to investigators that Love had never been employed by either organization.
Love also allegedly utilized applications to generate fake bank and investment account balances.
Those falsified accounts displayed millions of dollars in nonexistent funds.
In one documented instance, Love allegedly requested a screenshot showing an account balance of approximately $3.4 million.
Another fabricated investment account allegedly showed an $11 million balance.
During the course of the scheme, victims were shown account balances exceeding $30 million.
An 18-year-old woman, Taylor Jamie Chan, allegedly participated in the scheme alongside Love.
Chan allegedly posed as Love’s professional financial adviser to make the investment offerings appear legitimate.
Love and Chan allegedly exchanged investment-related messages regarding the transactions.
Love then showed those fabricated exchanges to victims as proof that the opportunities were genuine.

Love and Chan also allegedly participated in three-way FaceTime calls with victims.
During those video calls, they allegedly displayed fabricated investment gains to the women.
They allegedly used those calls to encourage victims to transfer additional money into the investments.
Victims allegedly transferred money using electronic payment services.
Funds were allegedly sent directly to Love or Chan.
When some women stated they did not have enough money to invest, Love allegedly instructed them to take out personal loans.
He assured those women that their loans would be repaid quickly.
Yet once victims ran out of money or began asking too many questions, Love allegedly ceased all communication.
He then kept the money they had sent.
None of the identified victims reported receiving any investment profits after sending money.
None reported receiving the repayment of their principal.
None received legitimate account information regarding their funds.
Financial records allegedly show Love and Chan received approximately $1.3 million from victims.
Investigators have identified at least 26 women as victims of the alleged scheme.
Federal investigators believe additional victims may exist.
Authorities allege money obtained through the scheme funded hotel stays.
Funds were also allegedly spent on purchases from luxury retailers, including Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Versace.
On August 17, 2026, arrest warrants were issued for Love and Chan.
On August 24, Chan flew from California to Boise, Idaho, where she met Love.
Investigators said Love was in Idaho attempting to meet additional potential victims.
Federal agents intervened and arrested both Love and Chan at Boise Airport.
When taken into custody, Love was reportedly wearing San Francisco 49ers apparel.
Investigators subsequently conducted a search of an Airbnb associated with Love.
Inside the rental property, agents allegedly uncovered approximately $3,000 in cash.
Agents also allegedly found a football helmet inside the residence.
The search allegedly yielded additional 49ers merchandise.
And both defendants now face formal prosecution in federal court.
Love and Chan were charged by criminal complaint with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud.
Both defendants remain held in federal custody.
The federal investigation remains ongoing.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
