BELIEVE IT OR NOT, POLICE SAY A STRANGER WIELDING MODIFIED BRASS KNUCKLES STABBED A SUBWAY COMMUTER ON A MANHATTAN TRAIN… AND THE SUSPECT IS NOW IN CUSTODY WITH CHARGES PENDING.
The stabbing took place during the Thursday morning rush, cops and sources said.
The victim was a 30-year-old commuter on his way to work.
He was riding a downtown No. 2 train.
The train was passing through the 96th Street station on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
It was around 7:40 a.m.
Then an unfamiliar man attempted to pick a fight with him, according to police and law enforcement sources.
The man was wielding brass knuckles, authorities and sources said.
Those brass knuckles had been “modified,” according to authorities and sources.
The assailant stabbed the commuter in the neck.
He stabbed him in the back.

But the attacker did not remain on the train.
He ran off the subway car.
Responding officers began searching the area, police said.
The victim accompanied the officers during the search, according to police.
And officers located the suspected attacker while canvassing with the victim, police said.
He was taken into custody.
He was not immediately publicly identified.
Charges against him were pending later in the morning, cops said.
The victim was taken to Mount Sinai West hospital.
He was listed in stable condition.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
