BELIEVE IT OR NOT, AUTHORITIES SAY A TRAFFIC STOP OVER AN EXPIRED TAG TURNED UP A FUGITIVE, METH, AND A GUN… AND ALL THREE OCCUPANTS WERE JAILED WHILE A MUGSHOT WENT VIRAL ON FACEBOOK.
On October 8, 2019, a Marion County deputy pulled over a car in Ocala, Florida.
The initial reason for the stop was an expired license tag.
Ricky Deeley, 34, was behind the wheel.
Deeley was operating the vehicle on a suspended license.
He was not alone in the car.
Two passengers were riding with him.
One passenger was identified as 20-year-old Logan Tindale.
Tindale was the subject of an active felony warrant.
When questioned, Tindale gave the deputy a fake name.
The second passenger was 20-year-old Katlyn Spruill.
Spruill was found in possession of a bag.
Inside the bag, deputies discovered 23 grams of methamphetamine, a handgun, cocaine, marijuana, 20 Methylin pills, and a digital scale.
The discovery led to multiple felony charges against Spruill.
She was charged with trafficking meth.
She was also charged with using a firearm during a felony.
Tindale faced his own criminal counts from the stop.

He was charged with violating probation.
He was also charged with giving a false name.
All three individuals were placed under arrest.
They were transported and booked into the Marion County Jail.
Then the Marion County Sheriff’s Office posted their booking photos on Facebook.
Almost none of the public attention focused on Tindale’s status as a fugitive.
Almost none of it focused on Spruill’s meth trafficking charge.
Instead, the spotlight shifted entirely to Deeley’s mugshot.
Within days, his booking photo generated thousands of shares and comments about his appearance.
But a smaller thread of commenters pushed back against the online response.
One person wrote that “they are all someone’s baby boy and girl” while hoping he could get help instead of ridicule.
A felony fugitive had been taken off the road.
A trafficking charge had been leveled over weapons and narcotics.
Yet neither of those developments received a fraction of the attention his face did.
The stop had uncovered the contraband.
The stop had caught the fugitive.
The internet noticed only the appearance.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
