Lauren Boebert pleaded with a judge as son Tyler got 20 days for child neglect: ‘Mercy is not softness’

A Colorado father was sentenced to 20 days in jail for child neglect after his congresswoman mother asked a judge for mercy, according to reports.

Tyler Boebert, the son of Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert, appeared before a Colorado judge Friday for sentencing in the child neglect case.

The defendant pleaded guilty to misdemeanor child abuse and neglect, according to court reports.

The charge stemmed from an incident involving his young son. The child was discovered wandering outside his mother’s home alone last year, according to reports.

Rep. Lauren Boebert personally appeared before the judge Friday to intervene before sentencing, according to reports.

The congresswoman asked the court for mercy for her son before the sentence was handed down.

“Mercy is not softness,” the Republican congresswoman told the judge.

She argued that mercy could be the difference between “correcting a father and orphaning a son during his most important hours.”

The judge ultimately sentenced Boebert to 20 days in jail. The term was ordered to include work release, according to reports.

The sentence does not resolve all of the father’s legal difficulties.

Boebert has also faced allegations in a separate case involving sexually explicit material, according to reports.

Those claims include an allegation involving a video he allegedly recorded of an ex-girlfriend. The recording allegedly occurred in 2024 when she was 17 and he was 18, according to reports.

Another former girlfriend reportedly obtained a temporary civil protection order against the defendant.

She obtained the protection order after accusing him of sharing private videos involving her and other girls, according to reports.

Those allegations are separate from the child-neglect conviction that resulted in Friday’s sentence, according to reports.
