An Alabama man was sentenced to life in prison, federal prosecutors announced.
The life sentence was handed down in connection with the murder of his girlfriend.
Federal prosecutors said he had been waiting outside her Florida apartment.
Prosecutors said he shot her more than 10 times outside the apartment.
Prosecutors said he then ran over her.
The defendant is Charles Carson-Dowdy.
He is 31 years old.
On Wednesday, August 26, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida announced Carson-Dowdy’s sentence in a news release.
In April, Carson-Dowdy pleaded guilty to multiple federal charges in relation to the killing, prosecutors said.
He pleaded guilty to cyberstalking.
He pleaded guilty to interstate domestic violence.
He pleaded guilty to murder through use of a firearm.
He pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The victim was Starmichael L. Tucker.
She was a U.S. Air Force Reservist, the Pensacola News Journal reported.
Tucker lived in Pensacola, Florida.
Carson-Dowdy lived in Mobile, Alabama.
In October 2024, Carson-Dowdy’s relationship with Tucker began, according to prosecutors.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, there were multiple occasions involving him trying to harass and intimidate her.
“During the dating relationship, Carson-Dowdy used cellular telephones, the internet, and a ridesharing business to engage in a course of conduct with the intent to harass and intimidate the victim,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in the news release.
A few months after their relationship began, Tucker traveled away from Florida.
In December 2024, Tucker was visiting family for the holidays, according to prosecutors.
While she was visiting family, she and Carson-Dowdy had been arguing over text messages, prosecutors said.
On January 1, 2025, while heading home to Florida, Tucker tried to break up with Carson-Dowdy via text, prosecutors said.
She tried to end their relationship.
Yet Carson-Dowdy did not accept the breakup.
“In response,” according to prosecutors, Carson-Dowdy ordered an Uber ride and traveled to her Pensacola apartment for a confrontation.

He was allegedly armed with a handgun.
Carson-Dowdy ultimately broke into Tucker’s apartment, according to prosecutors.
He waited for her arrival.
He waited inside.
On the evening of January 2, 2025, Tucker returned home.
Carson-Dowdy was waiting for her.
Carson-Dowdy killed Starmichael L. Tucker in Pensacola that night after she tried to end their relationship, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
After she returned home, Carson-Dowdy followed Tucker out of her apartment, prosecutors said.
He aimed his gun at her back.
He shot her.
Tucker collapsed.
Then Carson-Dowdy shot her about 10 times “at close range” in the parking lot, according to prosecutors.
Federal prosecutors said he shot her more than 10 times outside the Florida apartment where he had been waiting.
And the attack did not end with gunfire.
Following the shooting, Carson-Dowdy got in Tucker’s car, prosecutors said.
He repeatedly drove over her, prosecutors said.
She died as a result of the attack.
Carson-Dowdy then drove off in Tucker’s car, according to prosecutors.
He fled the scene in her vehicle.
Carson-Dowdy was later arrested in Spanish Fort, Alabama, according to prosecutors.
“My heart goes out to the victim’s family members and friends, who were robbed of Ms. Tucker’s presence in their lives by the depraved actions of this violent thug,” U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin, of the Northern District of Florida, said in a Wednesday, August 26 news release announcing Carson-Dowdy’s sentence.
Heekin also addressed the federal prosecution that secured the punishment.
“We cannot lessen the profound sadness caused by Ms. Tucker’s murder, but thanks to this aggressive prosecution by my office that secured a life sentence for Carson-Dowdy’s heinous crimes, we can guarantee that this criminal will spend the rest of his pathetic life locked behind bars where he belongs,” Heekin said.
He had waited outside her apartment.
He had shot her more than 10 times.
He had driven over her in her own car.
Information regarding Carson-Dowdy’s legal representation wasn’t immediately available.
Carson-Dowdy was sentenced to life in prison.
