A Colorado husband awaiting trial for his wife’s murder was arrested on a warrant alleging he committed a hit-and-run while on GPS monitoring, prosecutors said.
Barry Morphew was arrested Thursday night after prosecutors accused him of violating the conditions of his release in his wife’s death, according to court filings.
Boulder County deputies took the defendant into custody around 9:11 p.m. on Thursday, authorities said.
The arrest was executed on an outstanding failure-to-comply warrant issued out of Alamosa County, records show.
Morphew allegedly struck two vehicles in Denver on Aug. 26 and offered money to the other driver to avoid involving police, according to court documents. But after learning officers had been called, he refused to identify himself and left the scene, prosecutors said.
The defendant never reported the crash to authorities, according to prosecutors.
The defendant is “clearly visible and identifiable” in video footage of the incident, prosecutors stated in court filings.

At the time of the crash, Morphew was supposed to be on home detention with limited exceptions permitting work travel, court records show. But prosecutors argued there was no adequate system in place to verify that he was actually at an approved work site during those exceptions.
Existing release conditions are inadequate because the defendant represents what prosecutors described as an “extreme flight risk,” according to the motion.
The motion asks a judge to eliminate GPS exceptions and require verified proof of his presence at approved work locations, filings show.
Prosecutors also asked the court to prohibit Morphew from driving and increase the financial conditions of his bond, according to the motion.
Morphew is awaiting trial on allegations that he murdered his wife, Suzanne Morphew, after she disappeared in 2020, records show.
Suzanne Morphew’s remains were discovered in 2023, records show. Morphew was arrested again in connection with her death in 2025, according to court documents.
The murder case and the latest allegations remain pending, and Morphew is presumed innocent unless proven guilty, court filings state.
A bond hearing has been scheduled for Sept. 8, according to court records.
