A 47-year-old East Texas restaurant worker was arrested after a teenage coworker was allegedly attacked with a bladed instrument, police said.
Jose Vargas Buenrrostro, 47, lives in Elkhart, Texas, and was employed at the Cotton Patch Café in Palestine.
Officers with the Palestine Police Department were notified on Sept. 3 about an incident that took place at the restaurant the previous day, the agency said.
What reportedly began as horseplay escalated inside the restaurant, police said. Buenrrostro then allegedly attacked the 16-year-old coworker with a bladed instrument believed to be a box cutter, the department stated.
The teenager suffered a cut to his arm, police said.
Following the injury, Cotton Patch management directed the teen to use an on-site medical kit to tend to his own wound, police said. Supervisors then instructed him to finish his shift waiting tables while the alleged offender also remained at work, according to investigators.

After the teen completed his shift, a parent took him for medical treatment, police said.
The injury required two sutures, according to the department.
A report was filed, and Palestine Police Department detectives began an investigation, according to authorities.
On Friday, Sept. 4, detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Buenrrostro with aggravated assault, police said.
Officers arrested the suspect at his home in Elkhart, Texas, police said.
The investigation remains ongoing and additional charges are possible, police said.
