A Florida mother has been sent to prison following a fatal collision that killed her two young children.
Authorities said neither child was properly restrained inside the vehicle when the crash occurred.
Christina, 30, was driving the car.
Her 6-month-old baby was sitting directly in her lap.
Her other child was just 1 year old.
That child was reportedly sitting in the front passenger seat.
The 1-year-old was riding without a car seat.
The child was also riding without a seat belt.
During the drive, another vehicle slammed into Christina’s car.
Both of her children were killed.
Christina was not described as the driver who struck her vehicle.
Yet prosecutors held her criminally responsible for the dangerous circumstances in which the two children were riding when the collision occurred.
Then came formal criminal proceedings.
Christina was arrested following the fatal wreck.
She was ultimately convicted on two counts of aggravated manslaughter in connection with the deaths of her children.
She was sentenced to four years in prison on each count.
The judge ordered the two four-year prison sentences to run concurrently.
Under the concurrent structure, Christina will serve them at the same time rather than consecutively for a total of eight years.
And after completing her prison sentence, she will face a substantially longer period of court supervision.
The court sentenced her to 15 years of probation.
