BELIEVE IT OR NOT, POLICE SAY AN INVESTIGATION WAS OPENED AFTER A HARRISBURG MAN WAS ATTACKED OUTSIDE HIS RESIDENCE FOLLOWING UNWANTED ADVANCES AT THREE IN THE MORNING… AND NO ARREST WAS EVER REPORTED.
Early on a Saturday morning, Bill Hursh was walking back to his home in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
The time was around 3 a.m.
He was making his way toward his house on the 2100 block of North 3rd Street.
A young man approached him along the street.
The stranger began making unwanted advances toward him.
Hursh told the man to back off.
He warned that he would call the police if the man kept following him.
Then the attack happened.
Hursh says he does not remember much of what came next.
Neighbors later found blood on the sidewalk directly in front of the house.
They also discovered a bloody handprint on a nearby car.

Hursh had about $100 on his person at the time of the encounter.
None of it was taken.
Hursh was beaten badly enough that he had to be hospitalized.
He woke up in the hospital.
By his own account, he did not recognize himself when he looked in the mirror.
The facial swelling had changed his face that much.
The bruising had altered his appearance just as drastically.
Hursh believes he was targeted because he is gay.
He had lived on that Harrisburg block for eight years.
Yet he has said he now fears staying in the home he had lived in for those eight years.
Police opened an investigation into the assault.
Investigators made no determination on a motive.
And no arrest was ever reported.
