A 23-year-old California man attacked officers after being spotted assembling an expensive engraved shotgun on a San Francisco street corner, police said.
Joshua Boling, 23, was taken into custody following the violent confrontation, according to authorities.
Just after 10:30 p.m. on June 21, 2015, San Francisco police received a report of a man assembling a shotgun in plain view, police said.
The man was seen putting the weapon together at the intersection of Bush and Octavia streets, according to investigators.
Police identified the firearm in his hands as a Diamond Pigeon Beretta shotgun featuring elaborate engraving.
Authorities later valued the shotgun anywhere from roughly $8,000 to $95,000. The weapon had not yet been fully assembled when officers arrived at the scene, police said.
The first officer to arrive at the corner attempted to prevent Boling from finishing assembly of the gun, police said.
Boling immediately fought back and struck the officer, according to police.
When backup officers arrived at the intersection, the 23-year-old allegedly ran directly toward them, police said.
The initial officer managed to grab Boling from behind to halt his advance, according to authorities.

Boling spun around and wrapped his arms around the officer, police said. He then slammed the officer into a wall, according to authorities.
The officer was knocked unconscious on the spot, police said.
He was transported from the scene and later diagnosed with a concussion, according to police.
Boling did not stop fighting as additional officers moved in to take him into custody, police said.
The suspect allegedly struck a police sergeant in the face while officers attempted to place him in handcuffs, according to authorities.
Officers eventually managed to restrain him at the scene, police said. Even after being secured, Boling spat at officers and continued struggling against the handcuffs, according to authorities.
The 23-year-old was ultimately subdued and transported to San Francisco General Hospital for medical treatment, police said.
A booking photograph taken that night showed Boling with his eyes stretched wide, his face flushed, and his hair sticking out in every direction. The image circulated widely as a bizarre mugshot, largely detached from the violent struggle officers described, according to police.
Following his medical treatment, Boling was booked into the county jail, according to authorities.
Police listed charges against him including resisting an officer causing serious injury, aggravated assault on an officer, and battery on an officer.
Boling was also booked on charges of battery causing serious injury and obstructing police duties, according to the arrest record.
