A Georgia father left his sick 2-year-old son alone for about six hours before the boy died, police said.
Lolo Anilus, 39, faces charges in Marietta, Georgia.
The father faces counts of second-degree murder, second-degree cruelty to children and making false statements, according to police.
On September 3, the child had a fever and mouth pain and was refusing to eat, according to an arrest warrant.
Anilus allegedly left the boy unattended from about 2 p.m. until shortly after 8 p.m., the warrant states.
The toddler was left without anyone to feed him, change his diaper or get him medical help, police said.
Anilus claimed he had been home asleep. His daughter’s account and surveillance footage contradicted that story, investigators said.

During a forensic interview, the daughter told investigators her father had been away from the apartment, according to the warrant.
Surveillance footage also showed the defendant left. The warrant does not say where he went.
Officers arrived at the Legacy at West Cobb Apartments around 8:36 p.m. and found the toddler unresponsive, police said.
They provided aid before the boy was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
Investigators allege the neglect caused the child’s death, according to the warrant.
The warrant did not specify a medical cause of death. The medical examiner has also not publicly released those findings.
Cobb County police announced the father’s arrest on September 10, according to statements.
Anilus is held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, with his next court appearance scheduled for September 23.
