BELIEVE IT OR NOT, PROSECUTORS SAY A MUSICIAN AND THREE OTHERS WERE SHOT DEAD IN AN APARTMENT BY HIS BUSINESS ASSOCIATE… AND TWO MEN HAVE NOW BEEN ARRESTED OVER THE KILLINGS.
Jonathan Meléndez was 38 years old.
He played keyboard for the Mexican indie band Camilo Séptimo.
On Tuesday, an attack unfolded inside his apartment in Atizapán de Zaragoza.
Meléndez was found dead in his master bedroom, Mexican outlet Telediario reported.
He had been shot in the back.
His 35-year-old wife, Ana Paula, was also found dead inside the home.
She was four months pregnant.
Their three-year-old daughter, Sofia, was killed as well.
Ana Paula and Sofia were found in a nearby bathroom.
Both had been shot in the head.
A fourth victim was found dead inside a utility room.
She was identified as 21-year-old Aleida Romero Victoria.
Romero Victoria worked as the couple’s nanny.
Prosecutors said the family dog was also found “bound.”
The dog was killed during the attack.
But the couple’s six-year-old son survived.
He survived the shooting by hiding under the blankets.
Cops suspect the family was killed sometime between 5:30 p.m. and 7:40 p.m. on Tuesday.
Meléndez’s pal discovered the bodies just before midnight.
Hours before the discovery, Meléndez had made a phone call.
At 5 p.m., he spoke by telephone with a pal.
Meléndez revealed during that conversation that he would be having a meeting with his associate.
Prosecutors named that associate as Diego Sebastian “N”.
Meléndez and Diego Sebastian “N” managed rentals on Airbnb together.
The pair had been having disputes, according to Telediario.
Meléndez gave explicit instructions during the call.
He ordered them to call the cops if they didn’t hear from him later that night.

Then surveillance video recorded an arrival at the building.
Some 25 minutes after Meléndez’s call began, Diego Sebastian “N” was seen on video using an elevator in the apartment building.
He was wearing a black jacket.
He wore black sunglasses.
He wore a green baseball cap.
Footage also showed him carrying a brown backpack.
Omar Hamid García Harfuch, Mexico’s Secretary of Security, addressed how entry was gained.
He “exploited the relationship of trust to enter the residence,” García Harfuch said.
It is not clear when the alleged killer left the apartment complex.
Investigators inspected the residence for signs of theft.
It did not look like the apartment had been ransacked.
Robbery was ruled out as a motive.
Two men have been arrested over the killings.
Diego Sebastian “N”, named by prosecutors as an associate of the musician, was arrested.
Authorities also arrested his accomplice, Gerardo “N”.
Meléndez helped establish Camilo Séptimo more than a decade ago.
He founded the band in 2013 alongside singer Manuel Mendoza and guitarist Erik Vázquez.
The band’s name is inspired by Camilo Sesto.
Sesto was inducted into the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017.
The band earned award recognition early in its run.
Just two years into its existence, the group was nominated for the new artist award at the 2015 Los Indie-O-Music Awards.
The band’s track “No confíes en mí” was nominated for song of the year.
The Spanish title translates as “Don’t trust me.”
The band has paid tribute to Meléndez and his family following their murders.
“They will live forever in our hearts,” a statement said.
“Honas, we celebrate your music, your life, and your light. Rest in peace.”
Diego Sebastian “N” was arrested.
Gerardo “N” was arrested.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
