BELIEVE IT OR NOT, AUTHORITIES SAY A 60-YEAR-OLD MONROE COUNTY MAN POSSIBLY MOLESTED A MINOR WHO TESTED POSITIVE FOR A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE… AND HE NOW FACES CHARGES OF CHILD MOLESTATION AND ABUSE BY POISONING.
On Aug. 26, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office received information concerning the possible molestation of a minor.
According to authorities, the minor also tested positive for a controlled substance.
The sheriff’s office launched an investigation upon receiving the report.
On Tuesday, investigators made an arrest in the case.
The arrest was carried out by investigators with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit.
Officials identified the arrested man as 60-year-old Robert Earl Lofton.
Lofton is from the Lackey community near Hamilton.
He was booked on two separate counts.

Lofton is charged with one count of child molestation.
And he is charged with one count of child abuse by poisoning.
But authorities have not released additional details about the alleged abuse.
Officials have not identified the controlled substance involved.
Authorities have also not disclosed how investigators believe the child was exposed to the substance.
The sheriff’s office cited the ongoing investigation as the reason for withholding further information.
Then Lofton was booked into custody.
He was being held in the Monroe County Detention Center.
Lofton remained held while awaiting a bond hearing.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
