A 24-year-old woman from Wilson, North Carolina, is facing multiple felony charges after an alleged vehicle theft scheme.
Investigators say she developed a simple but illegal method of making money from vehicles that were temporarily stranded along the road.
Jamie Leonne Riley has been charged with two counts of felony larceny of a motor vehicle.
She also faces two counts of felony obtaining property by false pretenses, according to Nash County arrest warrants.
On August 4, 2026, the first alleged theft occurred.
A 2004 red Ford F-150 had become disabled and was sitting alongside the roadway.
The truck belonged to Steven Mott.
Authorities reported that the pickup was valued at approximately $6,000.
Court records accuse Riley of taking the disabled Ford F-150 from the roadside.
But investigators allege Riley did not simply take the truck.
She allegedly turned around and sold the F-150 to Carolina Auto Salvage for money.

According to investigators, she made the sale despite having no ownership interest in the vehicle.
Then, something remarkably similar happened just six days later.
On August 10, a 2009 black Kia Sportage was also disabled along the side of a roadway.
That sport utility vehicle belonged to Allen Michael Ham.
The Kia was likewise valued at approximately $6,000.
Authorities allege Riley took the Kia from the roadside.
And, once again, she allegedly sold the vehicle to Carolina Auto Salvage for cash.
Between the two incidents, investigators say Riley took vehicles worth a combined approximately $12,000.
The Nash County Sheriff’s Office investigated both cases.
On August 24, two arrest warrants were issued for Riley.
She now faces four felony charges stemming from the two alleged roadside vehicle thefts and subsequent salvage transactions.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
