A 39-year-old Florida woman allegedly tried to poison a 69-year-old man she met on a dating app after he bought her a vehicle, deputies said.
Samantha Adams, 39, of Orlando, faces an attempted murder charge and a collection of other criminal allegations, according to authorities.
The 69-year-old Haines City man told investigators he originally met Adams through a dating app, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
The online romance developed while the man knew the woman only as “Nala,” according to investigators.
Their relationship apparently progressed to the point that the man purchased a vehicle for Adams, according to deputies.
An argument over that vehicle reportedly broke out between the pair. But that dispute preceded the medical emergency that ultimately brought investigators into the case, according to the sheriff’s office.
On August 17, Adams allegedly went into the man’s kitchen carrying her purse, according to authorities. She later returned with two glasses of whiskey, deputies said.
The man reportedly drank from one of the glasses, according to investigators.
Later that night, the victim passed out, deputies said.
The man eventually required hospitalization following the collapse, according to authorities. His condition was consistent with a benzodiazepine overdose, according to the sheriff’s office.
August 17 was not the first time something unusual allegedly happened after the man consumed drinks around Adams, according to detectives. He had repeatedly shared drinks with her before suffering unexplained medical episodes, deputies said.

The victim described at least three other incidents during the same month after drinking with Adams at her Orange County residence, according to investigators.
During one encounter at the residence, the man allegedly became unsteady and fell, deputies said.
On another occasion, the victim reportedly passed out inside his vehicle, according to investigators.
On August 15, the man said he felt unusually groggy before backing his vehicle into another car, according to deputies.
As investigators began putting those incidents together, they also discovered other circumstances they considered suspicious, according to authorities.
Someone had allegedly tampered with the victim’s home security system, according to the sheriff’s office.
On August 27, deputies arrested Adams at Posner Park in Davenport, according to authorities.
Adams was carrying pills prescribed to someone else when she was taken into custody, deputies said.
In addition to attempted murder, the suspect faces allegations including evidence tampering and resisting without violence, according to the sheriff’s office.
Adams also faces multiple drug possession charges, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a legend drug without a prescription and offering to commit prostitution, deputies said.
The criminal case may not end with this 69-year-old man, according to the sheriff’s office.
Authorities are now examining whether additional alleged victims could exist, detectives said.
