Phoenix woman opened fire at a nail salon over $15 — allegedly telling cops she wanted her nail fixed for free

An Arizona woman allegedly punched a salon employee and opened fire on the business over a $15 fee, police said.

Essence Mire, 26, was taken into custody following the alleged attack at a nail salon in Phoenix, Arizona, according to authorities.

Officers responded to the salon near a strip mall at around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, police said.

Police responded after receiving a report that a shooting had taken place at the local business, according to authorities.

An investigation was launched into the matter, and police learned that Mire had become upset about the price of a service at the establishment, authorities confirmed.

The suspect was allegedly upset about a $15 charge to repair a broken nail, according to court documents obtained by AZ Family.

Police did not confirm the name of the salon where the shooting occurred, authorities said. Reporting from AZ Family, however, indicated the incident took place at Element Nail Bar.

Inside the business, Mire allegedly assaulted an employee by punching the worker in the face, according to court documents.

The defendant then walked outside and reportedly “fired a single shot through the front door,” police said.

The bullet caused damage to the building, including its glass doors being shattered, according to authorities.

Police said that about 18 people were inside the salon at the time of the shooting, according to officials. Many of those inside ran to the back of the building or hid, police said.

One person inside the salon reported being physically injured during the incident, according to police.

Several people who were inside the business recorded what happened on their cellphones, the outlet reported.

Mire allegedly fled the scene immediately after the shot was fired, police said.

Officers located the suspect and took her into custody a short time later, police said. It was not immediately clear how investigators tracked her down or how long she was on the run before her arrest, according to authorities.

Once she was located, Mire allegedly told police that she attacked the business in an attempt to intimidate the salon workers so that they would repair her nail for free, authorities said.

The defendant was booked on charges of aggravated assault, discharging a firearm at a nonresidence, discharging a firearm within the city limits, and assault, police said.

The Phoenix Police Department had no additional updates to share regarding the case, officials confirmed.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing, according to police.

Her bond was set at $100,000, according to court records. It was not immediately clear following her arrest if Mire had entered a plea or retained legal counsel, records show.
