“THEY WILL NEVER TRACE THIS BACK TO US”!!! BELIEVE IT OR NOT, AUTHORITIES SAY A SECOND SUSPECT ALLEGEDLY PARTICIPATED IN THE FATAL SHOOTING OF A CHICAGO POSTAL WORKER… AND HE IS NOW CHARGED WITH FIRST-DEGREE MURDER.
On July 19, 2024, authorities responded to reports of a shooting just before 11:40 a.m. in Chicago, Illinois.
Officers were dispatched directly to the 12100 block of South Harvard Avenue.
Upon arrival, police found a letter carrier who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds while delivering mail.
The victim was transported to Christ Medical Center.
She was pronounced dead at the medical facility.
Authorities identified the deceased postal worker as 48-year-old Octavia Redmond.
Redmond was a wife and a grandmother.
She had served as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for more than 15 years.
Investigators said an armed individual approached Redmond along her route.
The shooter pulled out a firearm and fired multiple times at close range.
Redmond’s USPS delivery truck remained at the scene following the gunfire.
But the shooter fled the South Harvard Avenue location in a white Dodge Durango.
Nearby surveillance cameras captured footage of the fatal shooting.
The following day, investigators located a burned white Dodge Durango in the 8900 block of South Holland Road.
Authorities believed the burned vehicle was the Dodge Durango used during Redmond’s killing.
Authorities eventually identified a 15-year-old boy as one of the individuals involved in the deadly attack.
According to prosecutors, the teenager was dressed entirely in black on the day of the shooting.
Prosecutors stated that the teenager had tracked Redmond’s mail route prior to the gunfire.
Investigators said the 15-year-old exited the stolen Dodge Durango before shooting Redmond multiple times.
Authorities also linked the firearm used in the postal carrier’s death to a separate battery case.
On September 30, 2024, authorities arrested the teenager in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
He was subsequently extradited to Chicago.
On June 3, 2026, the teenager pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.
On July 1, 2026, a Cook County judge sentenced him to five years in the Department of Juvenile Justice.
And the investigation into Redmond’s death continued.
On August 24, 2026, Chicago police arrested 35-year-old Lyndell Deyoung.
Officers apprehended Deyoung in the 500 block of East 80th Street in Chicago.
Authorities stated that Deyoung was identified as another person who allegedly participated in Redmond’s killing.
Yet police have not publicly disclosed additional details regarding Deyoung’s alleged role in the shooting.
A motive for Redmond’s killing has not been publicly released.
Prosecutors charged Deyoung with first-degree murder.
He was also charged with murder involving a strong probability of death or great bodily harm.
Authorities said Deyoung has been arrested 10 times in Chicago since 2015.
Those previous Chicago arrests included matters involving possession of a stolen vehicle and criminal trespass.
Deyoung is scheduled to return to court on September 17, 2026.
The case remains pending.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
