Shocking sentence revealed for The Villages woman who reversed Mercedes at bicyclists over slow down gesture

A Florida driver was sentenced to 90 days in jail after allegedly backing her car toward two bicyclists who asked her to slow down, police said.

Jill Allison Vernon, 58, has a home in The Villages, Florida.

On March 22, an encounter involving Vernon and two cyclists occurred in The Villages, according to police.

A man and a woman riding bicycles reported that Vernon allegedly approached them in a white Mercedes convertible at a high rate of speed, police said.

The male bicyclist motioned for the driver to slow down, according to statements given to police.

Vernon allegedly responded with an obscene gesture and yelled at them before driving away, according to their statements.

The bicyclists later heard the Mercedes approaching them from behind, according to their statements.

The female rider moved onto the grass to avoid the vehicle. The male cyclist was forced to stop as the car allegedly passed dangerously close to his leg, the riders said.

The man then stated that he was going to get her license plate number, police said.

Vernon pulled into a driveway and returned to the road, police said.

The driver then accelerated backward toward both bicyclists, according to police.

The bicyclists moved into another driveway to avoid the reversing Mercedes, police said. They left the roadway because they believed they were about to be hit, according to statements.

Officers later arrested Vernon at her nearby home, police said. Bodycam footage reportedly shows her pulling away from the officer during the arrest and falling after striking a wall.

She was initially charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and resisting an officer without violence, records show.

Vernon ultimately pleaded no contest to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to records.

She was sentenced to 90 days in jail and 150 hours of community service.
