“THE GUN WENT OFF DURING A STRUGGLE”!!! BELIEVE IT OR NOT, AUTHORITIES SAY ASHANTI BROWN LEFT HER BOYFRIEND TO DIE OF A GUNSHOT TO THE BACK AND DUMPED THE EVIDENCE IN A STORM DRAIN… AND SHE IS NOW BEING HELD WITHOUT BOND ON A SECOND-DEGREE MURDER CHARGE.
On August 31, 2026, deputies responded to a report of a shooting in Pensacola, Florida.
The call brought deputies to the Madison Shores Apartments on Pine Forest Road.
Upon arrival, deputies located a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities identified the victim as 26-year-old Ian Pleasant.
Investigators said Pleasant had been at the apartment with his girlfriend, 23-year-old Ashanti Brown.
An argument began between the two after Pleasant discovered Brown had been communicating with other men through text messages.
Brown told investigators the argument eventually became physical.
She said the two struggled over her cellphone.
According to Brown, Pleasant fell backward against the kitchen island during the altercation.
Brown claimed that Pleasant then grabbed a firearm.
Brown said she was able to grab the gun and pull it away from him.
She told investigators that pulling the weapon away caused it to accidentally discharge.
But Pleasant was struck in the lower-right area of his back.
Investigators said the physical evidence did not match her story.
According to investigators, the location of the gunshot wound was inconsistent with Brown’s description of an accidental discharge during a struggle.
Investigators said the trajectory of the bullet was also inconsistent with the gun firing during that physical encounter.
And authorities said Brown did not call 911 after Pleasant was shot.
She did not summon emergency medical assistance to the scene.
Instead, Brown placed a telephone call to a male friend.
She asked that friend to come over to the Pensacola apartment.
Investigators said Brown and the friend then left the apartment together in Pleasant’s vehicle.
They traveled into neighboring Santa Rosa County, Florida.
Brown initially told investigators that the friend helped her dispose of evidence during the drive.
She claimed the friend helped her dispose of Pleasant’s cellphone.
She claimed he also helped her dispose of a Ring doorbell camera.

According to Brown’s initial account, the friend threw both of the items into a body of water.
Then investigators interviewed the male friend.
The friend denied helping Brown dispose of any evidence.
He provided investigators with an account of events that differed from hers.
Investigators noted that Brown gave multiple accounts regarding what happened to the Ring camera.
She eventually altered her explanation to law enforcement.
Brown eventually told investigators that the camera had been thrown into a storm drain.
She stated that the storm drain was located near a family friend’s residence in Santa Rosa County.
Investigators searched the area and recovered the Ring camera from the storm drain.
Deputies later made contact with Brown at the OYO Hotel in Pensacola.
According to the arrest report, Brown was crying during the interaction.
Brown repeatedly said, “I didn’t mean to; I’m sorry.”
She later made an additional statement to law enforcement.
Brown told deputies, “I’m going to go to prison.”
Authorities said Brown provided multiple conflicting statements during the investigation.
Her statements conflicted regarding the shooting itself.
