A 32-year-old White Plains supermarket employee allegedly abandoned her newborn son inside an employee bathroom trash can, police said.
Guerlande Atila, 32, worked at the ShopRite supermarket in White Plains, according to police.
Atila allegedly gave birth around 11:00 p.m. inside an employee restroom, court records show.
She allegedly placed her newborn boy into a trash can and left him there unnoticed for about seven hours, police said. Another worker found the infant the next morning, according to authorities.
Store employees called 911 and cared for the baby until first responders arrived, police said.

The child required immediate, life-saving medical attention before being rushed to White Plains Hospital, according to police.
The newborn was listed in stable condition at the hospital, police said. Child Protective Services is handling the boy’s future care, according to officials.
Under New York’s Safe Haven law, an infant no older than 30 days can be surrendered at a hospital, police station, fire station, or to an appropriate person. The law requires that the baby be kept safe and that someone be told promptly where the child is, records state.
Police arrested the worker and charged her with abandonment of a child, a Class E felony, according to records.
Following her Sept. 2 arraignment, a judge released Atila on her own recognizance without requiring bail, court records show.
