A teenager in Wisconsin will potentially spend the rest of his life in prison.
Carson T. Peters-Berger pleaded guilty to the 2022 murder of 10-year-old Lily Peters.
Peters was his cousin.
He lured the child into the woods.
He sexually assaulted her.
On the evening of April 24, 2022, Peters was reported missing.
She had left her aunt’s house in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.
She had headed home.
One day after she disappeared, her remains were found.
They were discovered in the woods near her aunt’s residence.
Her cousin Carson T. Peters-Berger was arrested the next day.
Peters-Berger was 14 years old at the time.
An investigation into Peters’ death revealed details of her murder.
Details of the case were outlined in a criminal complaint viewed by People.
Peters-Berger told police officers that he lured Peters into the woods.
He told officers that he planned to sexually assault her.
He allegedly punched Peters.
She fell to the ground.
He hit her head multiple times.
And he claimed that he strangled her.
He told officers he strangled her “until he believed the victim was deceased,” per the complaint.
Peters-Berger said he then sexually assaulted Peters.
Then he got scared.
He fled the scene.
After Peters was reported missing, Peters-Berger returned to the scene.

He dragged her body.
He covered her with leaves.
He did so in an attempt to hide his crimes.
On Wednesday, August 26, Peters-Berger pleaded guilty to first-degree intentional homicide.
He was also initially charged with other offenses.
He had faced a charge of first-degree sexual assault/great bodily harm.
He had also faced a charge of first-degree sexual assault of a child under 13.
But the sexual assault charges were dismissed.
Peters-Berger acknowledged that the judge could consider those charges when determining sentencing.
He was ultimately sentenced to life in prison.
The sentence carries eligibility of extended supervision after 25 years served.
Peters was remembered in an online obituary shared by her family.
The tribute was shared shortly after her death.
In the tribute, the child was described as a fourth grader.
She loved the color purple.
She loved playing in the snow with her friends.
She loved riding her bike.
One family member also shared a photo of a poem Peters wrote.
In the poem, the little girl revealed her hopes for herself and others.
“I wish people were kind to each other,” she wrote.
“I wish that people would stop littering.”
“I wish there was peace in this world.”
“I wish it was summer all the time.”
She was survived by her parents.
She was survived by her brother.
