A 51-year-old New York woman faces a drunk driving charge following an encounter with local law enforcement.
The incident unfolded in Herkimer.
On August 26, the situation developed around noon along Protection Avenue.
Herkimer police officers were present along the roadway at the time.
They were assisting the New York State Police with an unrelated investigation.
That separate investigation involved a suspect who had reportedly fled from a pursuit.
Multiple marked police vehicles were already positioned in the area.
Several of those patrol units had their emergency lights activated.
Police say 51-year-old Aprile Lynch approached the scene driving a blue SUV.
She was traveling northbound along the street, according to authorities.
Police reported that Lynch failed to keep left.
Instead, she drove directly toward the officers and the parked patrol vehicles.
A police sergeant reportedly observed what was happening.
The sergeant yelled for another officer to move out of the way.
The officer managed to get out of the direct path of the oncoming SUV.

But he was unable to clear the vehicle completely.
Police say the passenger-side mirror of the SUV struck the officer as Lynch continued driving.
The impact hit the officer in his upper arm and shoulder.
The blue SUV continued moving down the street.
Yet the officer was not seriously injured in the strike.
Authorities reported that no significant injuries resulted from the incident.
And getting hit did not stop the officer from continuing his duties.
The officer quickly got into his marked patrol vehicle.
He followed the blue SUV as it traveled away from the scene.
Then the officer pulled over the same SUV that had just struck him.
He conducted a traffic stop on Lynch along the roadway.
Police said their subsequent investigation determined that Lynch was intoxicated.
The driver was taken into custody at the scene.
She was formally arrested by police.
Lynch was charged with driving while intoxicated.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
