Disturbing details emerge after San Antonio woman Corin Povolish arrested over emaciated dog tied with wire

A San Antonio woman was arrested after a dog was found emaciated and severely injured by embedded wire, police said.

Corin Janae Povolish was taken into custody on an animal cruelty charge, according to authorities.

A bystander initially spotted Povolish with several dogs along South W.W. White Road and stopped to offer them food and water.

The man later returned to the location with more supplies, police said.

Upon his return, he noticed a large brown dog tied up with metal wire wrapped tightly around its neck.

The animal’s physical condition alarmed the man, who then transported Povolish and the dog directly to a veterinary clinic.

An examining veterinarian determined the animal had sustained severe injuries, according to police.

Those injuries appeared to have developed over weeks or months rather than occurring overnight, the veterinarian determined.

An officer described the dog as extremely thin, with its ribs, spine and hips visibly protruding.

The veterinarian ultimately recommended that the dog be euthanized due to the severity of its injuries, police said.

Clinic staff then contacted authorities regarding the animal’s condition.

Povolish allegedly acknowledged knowing about the injury for several days, according to investigators.

Police said she had not sought medical treatment for the animal or relieved the wire cutting into its neck.

Povolish reportedly told investigators she had owned the dog for two years and used the wire to prevent it from fleeing an encampment.

Officers also discovered an unrelated outstanding warrant for the suspect during the arrest, police said.

Povolish was booked on the animal cruelty charge following the investigation, authorities said.
