“FRESH AIR WILL HELP HER”!!! BELIEVE IT OR NOT, INVESTIGATORS SAY A NORTH DAKOTA MOTHER FAILED TO SEEK MEDICAL CARE FOR FIVE DAYS WHILE HER SEVEN-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER DETERIORATED, AND SHE NOW FACES A FELONY MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE FOLLOWING THE CHILD’S DEATH.
Seven-year-old Jerrie Young spent five days becoming increasingly sick.
She eventually could no longer walk or sit upright.
She had to be carried.
She also became difficult to wake.
On May 15, Jerrie died.
Yet investigators say her mother, 32-year-old Jerika Haley McNeely, never sought medical help for her daughter.
Authorities noted that McNeely had access to a phone.
She had a vehicle.
There were also medical facilities located nearby.
Jerrie’s siblings independently told investigators that they watched their sister’s condition steadily deteriorate.
At least one child reportedly told McNeely that Jerrie needed to go to the hospital.
But the probable-cause affidavit states that McNeely took the dying girl outside instead.
She reportedly believed that fresh air would help.
Deputies responded to the family’s Alexander, North Dakota, home after receiving a report that Jerrie was unresponsive.
First responders attempted to save the child.
She was pronounced dead.

The North Dakota Forensic Examiner’s Office conducted an investigation into her cause of death.
The office determined that Jerrie died from complications of Streptococcus pneumoniae meningitis.
Examiners ruled her death a homicide.
The homicide ruling was issued because the child was denied adequate medical care.
A pediatric infectious-disease specialist also evaluated the case.
The specialist stated that her symptoms pointed to a life-threatening bacterial infection that required immediate treatment.
It was not a common viral illness, according to the specialist.
On August 25, McNeely was arrested.
She was charged with manslaughter involving a child victim.
The offense is classified as a Class B felony.
The charge carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
It also carries a fine of up to $20,000.
McNeely later posted bond.
She was subsequently released from custody.
Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 5.
Her arraignment is also set for November 5.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
