BELIEVE IT OR NOT, AUTHORITIES AND PABST BLUE RIBBON SAY A MISSING TRUCK LOADED WITH OVER 50,000 CANS OF BEER HAS VANISHED IN MONTCLAIR, CALIFORNIA, AND THE BREWING COMPANY HAS NOW FILED A POLICE REPORT AND OFFERED A REWARD FOR INFORMATION LEADING TO ITS RECOVERY.
A commercial freight shipment carrying tens of thousands of cans of beer has vanished in Southern California.
According to the iconic beer company, the vehicle disappeared from the city of Montclair.
The cargo was last seen on August 17.
That day, the shipment failed to arrive at its scheduled delivery appointment.
According to Montclair Police, the truck was last seen at an Anheuser-Busch distribution facility.
Police told The Mercury News that the distribution center is located in the 4500 block of Brooks Street.
The vehicle was carrying a total of 1,602 cases of beer.
Altogether, the shipment contained more than 50,000 individual cans.
The entire cargo weighed approximately 40,000 pounds.
Montclair Police reported that the missing shipment was valued at around $45,000.
According to the beer company, the load was primarily made up of 1,400 cases of Pabst Blue Ribbon.
The truck was also transporting nearly 200 cases of Old Milwaukee Non-Alcoholic Beer.
A subcontractor was scheduled to transport and deliver the alcohol, police told The Mercury News.
But the truck never reached its intended destination.
According to Pabst, the vehicle was en route to San Diego when it disappeared on August 17.
Following the disappearance, the company confirmed that a formal police report was filed.
On August 21, the company addressed the theft publicly in a post published on Instagram.
In that post, the brewery issued a direct message to those responsible for taking the vehicle.
“To the thief: we don’t fault you for wanting to brag to your friends how much PBR you have, we just wish you obtained it the honorable way,” they wrote.
The company also announced that it was setting a strict deadline for the return of the cargo.
“Pabst is officially starting the clock now – you have exactly 18 days and 44 minutes to return our truck, no questions asked,” the company wrote.
“Leading up to that time, we will be offering a reward to anyone who can help us solve this mystery.”
The company did not specify the financial amount or nature of the reward being offered.
Pabst also did not explain the reasoning behind the specific timeline of 18 days and 44 minutes.
The social media post included an outline of events surrounding what the company described as a robbery.
The brand reiterated that it is offering a reward to anyone with information regarding the heist.
And the company acknowledged that it does not have a physical description of the vehicle itself.
In the post, Pabst stated that they “don’t know” exactly what the missing truck looks like.
“We realize how ridiculous that sounds, but it’s the truth,” they wrote.
“To the mastermind behind what might be the greatest beer heist in of our generation: We get it,” the post added.
“But can we have our truck back?”
“Please?”
Social media users responded to the company’s public appeal by posting jokes in the comments section.
“Flock cameras can’t even do their job,” one commenter wrote.
“It’s a missing truck of empties and it’s in my driveway,” another commenter said.
“Keys were in it,” a third commenter wrote.
“My bad.”
Then, in an August 28 statement to Men’s Journal, Pabst provided an update on the situation.
The company stated that it is actively collaborating with local law enforcement agencies to track down the vehicle.
“We also appreciate all the individuals who have been sharing possible sightings of the truck,” a Pabst spokesperson told the outlet.
“At this time, we don’t have any further information to share beyond what was released in the Police report,” the spokesperson added.
“We hope that whoever managed to steal our truck also knows the importance of keeping beer cold.”
The vehicle remains missing.
The investigation remains open.
