Disturbing weapons found on Patrick Havas 38 accused of lunging toward Ohio candidate Amy Acton

An Ohio man was arrested Sunday after allegedly pushing through a crowd toward Democratic gubernatorial candidate Dr. Amy Acton while carrying two handguns and brass knuckles, authorities said.

Patrick Havas, 38, of Canfield, was taken into custody following the encounter, according to police.

The disturbance occurred while Acton was speaking at the Canfield Fair, authorities said.

Havas entered the Democratic Party tent around 2:30 p.m. while recording with his cellphone, according to the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect then began pushing his way through the crowd, deputies said.

Acton’s security detail, composed of Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers, quickly confronted him, authorities said.

During the commotion, two people were knocked to the ground, authorities said. Canfield Fair police intervened and quickly took Havas into custody, officials said.

Acton was not injured, according to authorities.

Investigators recovered two handguns and a set of brass knuckles from the suspect, deputies said. None of the weapons were brandished or removed from their holsters, authorities said.

Her campaign described Havas as an “armed individual” who “lunged” at Acton, while the sheriff’s account says he was forcefully pushing through the crowd toward the area where she was speaking.

Authorities have not publicly established a motive for the suspect, police said. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is conducting a threat assessment, authorities said.

Investigators continue reviewing the incident, with additional charges potentially coming, according to officials.

Havas was booked into the Mahoning County Jail on two felony assault charges and one disorderly conduct charge, authorities said.
