A 26-year-old former Ohio State football player allegedly punched and choked his girlfriend until she passed out during a drive in Columbus, according to court documents.
Michael Roen McCullough, 26, of Columbus, is a Worthington Kilbourne High School graduate who walked on as a long snapper for the Ohio State Buckeyes from 2018 to 2020.
On Thursday, August 28, 2025, McCullough and his girlfriend were driving home when an argument broke out in the vehicle, according to court documents.
McCullough allegedly broke her cellphone during the confrontation, the documents state. The former athlete then allegedly punched her in the face multiple times, according to the complaint.
He allegedly grabbed her around the throat with one hand and pushed her against the car window, court documents state.
She “could not breathe at all and felt panicked,” she told police.

Illinois suspect Gena English Wheat, 60, accused of concealing her neighbor’s death, was rearrested upon federal release for skipping court.
The woman subsequently lost consciousness, according to court documents.
She told investigators she doesn’t remember being driven the rest of the way home. The next thing she remembers is regaining consciousness after the car was already parked outside their home, court documents state.
Police documented a black eye, a cut and swollen lip, and a bruise on her throat, according to records.
McCullough was arrested on Saturday, August 30, police said.
The former long snapper was booked into the Franklin County Jail, according to authorities.
His bond was set at $50,000 at Tuesday’s hearing, court records show. No trial date or plea has been reported yet, according to the records.
