Twist in case of fugitive Seth Walls accused of shooting Tennessee teen Haley Reedy to death

A Tennessee fugitive wanted in the fatal shooting of a teenage girl was arrested in Europe after three years on the run, according to authorities.

Seth Walls, 23, was taken into custody in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in connection with the killing of 15-year-old Haley Reedy, the U.S. Marshals Service announced.

Walls is accused of shooting the teenager to death at a home in Millington, Tennessee, on September 11, 2022, according to authorities.

The Shelby County medical examiner determined that Reedy had been shot in the head at a downward angle, per WMC-TV.

That finding eliminated the possibility that the teenager’s death was self-inflicted, the television station reported.

Prosecutors initially charged Walls with reckless homicide in connection with the fatal shooting, according to WMC-TV.

Walls was later charged with second-degree murder and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, the station reported.

Walls posted a $10,000 bond afterward and never returned to court, resulting in an arrest warrant, according to the television station.

In September 2023, a year after Reedy was killed, the U.S. Marshals Service began investigating the defendant as a fugitive.

“Walls’ trail led out of state and eventually out of the country,” the agency said.

Interpol became involved in the manhunt by making sure foreign law enforcement would keep an eye out for him, according to authorities.

On Saturday, September 12, authorities arrested Walls in Ljubljana, Slovenia, almost exactly four years after the shooting, according to the Marshals Service.

The fugitive had given a fake name during his arrest, according to the agency.

Interpol ultimately helped confirm his identity by sharing his fingerprints with Slovenian authorities, according to the Marshals Service.

The U.S. Marshals Service publicly announced the arrest in a news release on Wednesday, September 16.

Millington city officials informed the victim’s mother, Brandee Jones, on Tuesday, September 15, that Walls had been arrested, Jones told The Tennessean.

“I’m very shocked and relieved at the same time,” Jones said. “I don’t have to worry about him harming anyone else.”

Jones also shared her disappointment in how local law enforcement has handled her daughter’s case over the last four years, the newspaper reported.

“I feel as if the local judicial system has let me down, as well as my daughter, for the last four years,” Jones told the newspaper.

“They have put us on the runaround since the beginning,” Jones said. “Never being able to get them on the phone, or answer questions pertaining [to] the case.”

“It’s all been such a tragedy to us, and we only want justice for Haley,” Jones added.

“The tragic murder of Haley Reedy has deeply affected her family, friends and the whole Millington community,” Millington Mayor Larry Dagen said in a statement.

“We recognize that no action can undo that loss, but we hope this significant development in the case provides an opportunity for justice to be done and brings the family, and our community, closer to healing,” Dagen added.

It was not immediately clear whether Walls had retained legal counsel.

Walls is expected to be extradited to the U.S. from Slovenia, where he remains detained, according to the Marshals Service.
