A young couple in LaGrange County is facing serious criminal charges after a child was hospitalized over the summer.
Spencer Slentz, 20, has been charged with Level 1 felony neglect of a dependent resulting in catastrophic injury.
Paige Barrett, 19, faces an identical Level 1 felony count.
Both individuals are guardians of the infant.
On July 17, the infant was taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
Indiana State Police said their investigation officially began following that hospital visit.
The child had suffered severe injuries.
Yet authorities have not publicly disclosed the specific nature of those injuries.
Officials have also withheld information regarding exactly what happened leading up to the hospitalization.

But the infant’s injuries were serious enough that county authorities requested state assistance.
The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office asked Indiana State Police detectives to take over the investigation.
State detectives then assumed control of the inquiry.
Then the prosecutor’s office filed charges against both guardians.
Slentz was arrested on Aug. 21.
Barrett was arrested this past Friday.
And officials confirmed that updates regarding the infant’s current medical condition will not be released for now.
The circumstances surrounding how the infant was injured have not yet been made public.
Both suspects have been charged, not convicted.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
