Margaret Rog allegedly left her disabled husband on a toilet for 19 hours — going to bed as he groaned

A 75-year-old West Virginia woman allegedly left her medically vulnerable husband stranded on a toilet for 19 hours before his death, authorities said.

Margaret Rog, 75, is accused of neglecting her 76-year-old husband, according to court documents.

Her husband had dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, legal blindness and other medical conditions that left him dependent on assistance, records state.

On August 20, the man went to the bathroom around 3 p.m., according to court documents.

Rog allegedly could not get him back up. She did not contact relatives, emergency services or anyone else for assistance, authorities said.

Deputies allege Rog heard her husband groaning in pain. She went to bed anyway and left him there overnight, according to investigators.

The husband remained stranded on the toilet for approximately 19 hours without food, water or his medication, authorities said.

He sat there until approximately 10 a.m. the following morning, court documents state.

A speech therapist arrived for an in-home appointment, found the man unresponsive and immediately called an ambulance, authorities said.

Doctors diagnosed the husband with numerous serious conditions, including heart and respiratory failure, severe dehydration-related complications and sepsis.

The man never returned home. Eleven days after the incident, on August 31, he died, records state.

Investigators determined that conditions and injuries resulting from the incident were significant contributing factors in his death, court records show.

Rog was charged with abuse or neglect of an incapacitated adult, authorities said.

She is being held at the North Central Regional Jail on $75,000 bond, records show.
