“I AM THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY!”!!! BELIEVE IT OR NOT, AUTHORITIES SAY SEVIER COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY GENERAL JAMES DUNN HAS BEEN ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE FELONY CHARGES TIED TO ALLEGED MISCONDUCT IN OFFICE AND NOW FACES CHARGES HIMSELF.
Dunn, 79, of Newport, was arrested on Aug. 27.
He was booked around 4:18 p.m.
According to jail records, the arrest involves multiple felony charges tied to alleged misconduct in office.
Dunn is not just any defendant.
He is the top prosecutor for Sevier County.
According to jail records, he is facing two counts of official oppression.
He is also facing a count of official misconduct.
A count of retaliation for past action is listed among the charges.

In addition, Dunn faces a charge of coercion of a state witness.
He is also charged with civil rights intimidation.
That makes charges involving alleged witness coercion, civil rights intimidation and abuse of official authority especially significant.
But jail records currently do not explain what specific conduct led to the charges.
Dunn was released about 30 minutes after being booked.
No bond amounts were listed in the jail records.
In July, he had already announced that he planned to step down after roughly 20 years as district attorney.
Then the arrest followed.
The man whose office decides who gets prosecuted is now the one facing felony charges.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
