“I NEVER POINTED ANYTHING AT THEM”!!! BELIEVE IT OR NOT, POLICE SAY A 40-YEAR-OLD MAINE MAN LEVELED A WEAPON AT RESPONDING OFFICERS BEFORE BEING SHOT IN BOTH HANDS… AND HE NOW FACES MULTIPLE CHARGES AFTER BEING BOOKED INTO JAIL.
A 40-year-old Brownfield man has been arrested following an Aug. 17 confrontation in Oxford County.
The incident ended with an Oxford County sheriff’s deputy shooting him twice in the hands.
Authorities identified the man as 40-year-old Aric Junkins.
On Monday, Junkins was arrested at the Togus VA Medical Center.
Officers then booked him into the Oxford County Jail.
Junkins now faces a series of charges stemming from the domestic disturbance call.
He is charged with domestic violence.
He is charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon.
He is charged with domestic violence criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon.
He is charged with domestic violence assault.
He faces two counts of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon.
According to the sheriff’s office, authorities were called to a home on Porter Road.
The call followed a report that Junkins was allegedly chasing his wife with a gun.
Police said Junkins later pointed or leveled a weapon in the direction of responding officers.
Then Deputy Andre Chasse fired two shots.
Both shots struck Junkins in the hands.
Junkins was treated at the scene.
He was taken to Bridgton Hospital.

He was later transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital.
Deputy Chasse was placed on administrative leave following the shooting.
The sheriff’s office said administrative leave is standard after an officer uses deadly force.
Two separate agencies are now examining the incident.
The Maine Attorney General’s Office is separately investigating the shooting.
Meanwhile, the sheriff’s office is handling the underlying criminal investigation.
But Junkins’ wife, Heather Junkins, has publicly disputed the law-enforcement version of events.
She said her husband was suicidal.
She said he was not chasing her with a gun.
She claimed the weapon was actually a BB gun/air rifle.
She also said officers did not tell him to drop the weapon before he was shot.
And she said that she repeatedly told police she was not a victim of domestic violence.
On Wednesday, Junkins was arraigned.
Court proceedings outlined the conditions under which he could potentially be released.
He could potentially be released on $10,000 cash bail.
Alternatively, he could be released on personal recognizance under strict conditions.
Those strict conditions include a possible transfer back to Togus.
They also include house arrest.
Junkins is charged, not convicted.
The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
