Unidentified Woman Filmed Defecating on Brentwood Sidewalk as Neighbors Report Threats, Outlets Say

An unidentified woman has been repeatedly defecating on sidewalks and threatening residents in Los Angeles’ Brentwood neighborhood, according to local reports.

The woman has not been publicly named, and her age and home address were not disclosed, Fox 11 reported.

Video footage captured the woman openly squatting on a grass sidewalk at the corner of Goshen and Barrington Avenues, Fox LA reported.

Pedestrians walked past as the woman openly defecated on the residential corner, according to the recording. She was also seen wiping on camera, the station reported.

Residents said the woman has been using the neighborhood as her personal toilet for years, according to the station.

One local resident reported seeing the sidewalk defecation “every morning,” Fox LA reported.

Her public behavior has grown increasingly worse over time, residents told Fox 11.

Local mother Wendy Kush said she was walking with her young daughter and dogs when she spotted the woman, Fox LA reported.

The woman immediately turned hostile toward the family on the street, Kush said.

Kush said she “started yelling she was gonna kill me, lunging at me.”

“I couldn’t get the lab to move because she was moving really slow. Luckily, I finally just started running and the dogs followed me, but it was really scary,” Kush said.

Kush posted about the encounter online after escaping the confrontation, Fox LA reported.

Other residents in the area said they had experienced similar encounters with the woman, according to the broadcast.

Neighbors subsequently contacted police and reached out to local representatives about the incidents, Fox 11 reported.

Kush recalled speaking to a neighbor shortly after witnessing the woman’s conduct, according to the station.

“I remember saying something to my neighbor who said, ‘Oh yeah, she does that every morning,’ which I thought was kind of insane,” Kush said.

“It’s disgusting, but it’s more of the same,” another resident said.

Kush attempted to get the woman help because she felt sorry for her, Fox LA reported.

A help group spent six months attempting to locate the woman, according to the station.

The outreach group eventually located the woman in the area, Fox LA reported.

The woman refused any assistance once contacted, according to the broadcast.

Outreach workers told Kush they could not do anything more after the woman declined services, Kush said.

Kush said the area has a lot of “mentally ill homeless people that we have compassion for, but they need treatment.”

Brentwood resident Laurie Sideman said outreach agencies want to assist but are unable to intervene, according to Fox 11.

Sideman said residents are repeatedly told that agencies’ hands are tied unless an “actual violent act” occurs, the station reported.

Neighbors said they feel it is unfair that they are held to a higher standard than the woman on the street, according to the report.

“So basically, if someone poops right here, it’s fine. But if I throw something out of my car, I get a ticket,” Brentwood resident Shawn Shayan said.

Mayor Karen Bass’ office has alerted the County Emergency Centralized Response Center to respond with its mental health outreach team, Fox LA reported.

The city relies on Los Angeles County for mental health services, according to the station.

City councilwoman Traci Parks said the woman is emblematic of the city’s ongoing mental health crisis, Fox 11 reported.

“This is a prime example of the ongoing mental health crisis on our streets. We desperately need the County Mental Health Department’s assistance in getting this patient off the streets and into the supervised care they need,” she said.
